Background of subjext & OSRAM
“Learning occurs in context. Learning is active. Learning is social. Learning is at its best in collaborative environments.” The development of innovative design solutions requiring collaboration with real-life clients and other professional disciplines is a continuous challenge, amid a complex and diversified economy such as Hong Kong’s.
This Co-operative Workshop subject in School of Design (HKPolyU) provides an alternative mode of teaching and learning experience by engaging students with major commercial/industrial organizations that provide input as clients to design projects. Through in-depth research, analyses, synthesis and communications, design issues can be dealt with both in theory and practice. This will better prepare student designers for upcoming future tasks in the real world.
OSRAM is an internationally-operating German company in the lighting industry with a history of more than one hundred years. Around 60% percent of OSRAM’s sales come from energy-efficient products. With increasing environmental concerns and growing energy prices, energy saving becomes an ever-more important issue in the company’s operation and in its product lines. One key in tackling this issue is LED technology, which continuously replaces traditional light sources. In this co-operative workshop OSRAM is looking for the design of a high-quality product family of LED-based indoor spotlights that meet the needs of interiors in particular in the Asian region. The company has a particular interest in giving this product line a distinctly recognisable brand image.
